Carlos Enrique Rengifo Chunga

Associate Investigator of the San José de Moro Archaeological Program and assistant to the International Relations and Cooperation office of the Pontifical Catholic University of Peru. A graduate of the National University of Trujillo, he has directed various excavation units at SJM. Currently, he is in charge of the Laboratory of SJMAP at Catholic University and assists in editing the journal Latin American Antiquity.

Rengifo has developed his investigations around the subjects of funerary identity and craft specialization. In this regard he has published articles on metal workshops in the Huacas de Moche site, on specialists’ tombs in San José de Moro, and has participated in various conferences in Peru and abroad.
Rengifo has also collaborated on projects in the Chachapoyas region and has directed excavations in the Huaca 20 cemetery in Lima, furthering his interest in the area of funerary practices.
